There are many credit card processing programs on the market. There are so many types of credit and debit cards with different levels of rewards being offered to the consumer, it is nearly impossible for the merchant to really understand the cost of each different type of credit and debit card transaction.
Many vendors are successful at enticing a merchant to commit to their program by emphasizing low percentage rates while they fail to explain the impact of per item transaction fees on the merchant’s true costs or the cost and expense of processing equipment which may be subject to a long-term non-cancellable lease.

• The rates you pay will be based on the cost of processing plus our markup – which will typically be between 15 and 20 basis points. This means that the cost to the merchant including per item transaction costs, monthly fees and percentage rates will typically cost you between 2 and 2 ½% of the item you are selling.
Don’t be fooled by a salesman who promises you a low rate of 1.29%. Such a rate will only apply to specified debit card transactions and it will likely not have accounted for the cost of per item fees.
